One constant in search marketing is change. Google in particular makes numerous changes (some small, some not so small) to its algorithm throughout the year in an effort to improve the search experience for users.
One of the bigger changes that Google rolled out in 2020 was a new set of metrics called Google Core Web Vitals. Core Web Vitals is an initiative by Google to provide unified guidance for quality signals that are essential to delivering a great user experience on the web. The Web Vitals initiative aims to simplify the landscape, and help sites focus on the metrics that matter most, the Core Web Vitals.
The Core Web Vitals will become part of Google’s ranking algorithm starting in May 2021 and it could impact whether and how high your website ranks in search engine results.
The Good News
What Google is asking site owners to improve makes a lot of sense. The point is to have a website that delivers a fast, interesting, and accessible experience for every user. We believe all those core factors of page experience should be coupled with also delivering high value content to your site visitor. We recommend putting a plan in place that prioritizes page experience for your site visitor for the long haul, not just this most recent change.
