Every person at Shift Collaborative brings a unique perspective to our company. We caught up with our summer intern Aaron Alcalde to learn more about what inspires him, what he’s working on, and a few fun facts you might not know. From tackling creative marketing projects to pursuing entrepreneurial ideas outside the office, Aaron spent his summer bringing curiosity, enthusiasm, and a fresh perspective to our team. In the fall he is heading back to the University of Southern California, Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy where he will obtain his Bachelor of Science in Arts, Technology, and the Business of Innovation.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a student from Los Angeles and currently studying entrepreneurship and data analytics. I’m passionate about marketing, startups, and finding creative ways to solve business challenges. Outside of work and school I love all things music, both listening and playing. I also enjoy card games, cooking, and exercising.
What part of your work energizes you the most?
Being able to incorporate design, technology, and business knowledge into one project. When I can be technical and creative, I’m at my best.
Do you have a side project, creative hobby, or personal pursuit you’d like to share?
Currently working on building up my personal portfolio website to show off all my previous projects and experience. I’m also working on a social media based startup with a friend.
What’s one lesson that’s shaped your career so far?
Don’t expect yourself to be perfect right away. Start where you are, build good habits, and focus on improving. Consistency counts.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
Photography, music, cooking, tennis, collecting vinyl records, and building new things. Right now I’m working on my own portfolio website and developing a social media startup with a friend.
Tell us something people might not know about you.
I made an action short film with some friends in high school. We wrote, shot directed, edited, and color graded the whole thing with guidance from a close teacher.
If you could give a TED Talk on any topic with no preparation, what would it be?
The importance of saying “yes” to opportunities. Some of the best experiences happen when you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone.

I collect Vinyls. I love photography. I play tennis. I’m down to talk forever about seemingly unimportant things.
